Welcoooooome back pal! Today I will answer that question we all ask ourselves at some point in this journey called life: “Why is blog such a nasty gross word and why on earth do we use it?” Well friends, you’ve come to the right place.
Well first let's just start with the structure of this word “BLOG.” Now the first two letters are “BL.” That's a big no-no in the world of nice sounding words. Take the word “Blah” for instance. It was a young excited word, ready to start its word carrier. Little did it know that starting your word with “BL” is a death sentence in this industry. Now look where this poor word is now:
BLAH: “used to refer to something which is boring or without meaningful content or depression.”
That does not sound like success to me. Think of almost every other word starting with “BL.” Now let us ponder for a moment. Yup. They are just not the best sounding group in the dictionary sorry pals.
Another big mistake the word “BLOG” has made is what words have a similar sound to it. It makes me think of smog, frog, just slimy yucky boogery thangs. It honestly doesn’t even sound like a real word, it just sounds like the sound (whoa thats confusing) that a frog makes! Yeah no thanks. It makes me want to gag, blow my nose, and wash my face.
The next part of this question is why on earth do we use this word? Such a good point. Why do we? Well, If you look into the history of the word blog, it was actually created as a JOKE by Peter Merholz in 1999. And yet humanity with its low expectation word quality (I mean think of the word ramen, it literally sounds like your eating uncooked males) has made it part of their everyday vocabulary. Sad really. But now it is too late to fix this mistake we have made. Whats done is done. So why do we use this word? For the sake of communication. People would have no idea what you were talking about if you said: “Yo dud go check out my sick Oofyrotty!” So in order to be able for our fellow man to understand and communicate with us, we must use the nasty slang words they create for us. Its a hard life for us word snobs.
